Management and Repayment of Debt
Debt is the #1 cause of failure of Private Clubs. While less than 20% of clubs utilized debt before the recession, over 70% utilize debt according to the results of our Best Practices Audit Survey. Our presentation will focus on the management and repayment of debt and some of the pitfalls clubs face.
Joe Abely Co-Founder and Principal of Club Board Professionals. He has over 18 years of experience of private club board, committee and governance experience. Joe’s club experience includes 12 years on board of Brae Burn Country Club in West Newton, MA, including 6 as Treasurer and 3 as President overseeing over $20 million of capital improvements resulting in a significant transformation of the club. He currently serves as Chair of Brae Burn’s Nominating Committee.
Joe has an over 40-year career in business including as Partner in an international accounting firm and CEO/COO/CFO of public, venture-backed and non-profit entities and has significant experience in negotiating and closing debt on favorable terms. He has a wide-ranging board experience in public, venture, private equity, and non-profit entities. Joe is a CPA and also has an MBA.
